@pmvines If an alien came down and watched someone making hot tea, they would initially assume the person was doing some kind of laundry ; as one might dunk a net bag of very small dirty clothes in a container of hot water, and watch it discolour, as the clothes presumably got cleaner.
They would then be very surprised to see the bag of laundry being discarded, and the dirty water being drunk.
English traditions are like strong passwords, so obscure and counterintuitive that only someone who is taught them could possibly know them.

I'm also not much into watching sports. I don't regularly watch sports, and actually find it somewhat boring much of the time. I might pay more attention to international soccer (World Cup) sometimes though.
@Sheena123 as far as how are you goes, a simple " 'sup." will suffice. At my work we don't say good morning. We just say "morning." For obvious reasons.
@FlyingToaster When some England fans were celebrating "We won" a soccer game, my Dad said he didn't feel that way because he hadn't kicked the ball even once.

Ooh, neat thread. Hmm. I'm not sure I'm familiar enough with public opinion to say what things count as "very popular to love." Hmmm. Oh! I think I've got one: sex. I dislike sex. Specifically for me, mark you. Like country music; I just don't like it. (I think there are probably plenty of people who dislike country, though. So that one probably doesn't count.)
@quixotic_life I love me some bass. Lol I love going to the club and just getting lost in it. I love it loud enough to where I can’t hear anyone else and I just vibe. That’s probably why I’m also the kind of person that yells when I talk. I get so excited about something I don’t realize I get loud. My sister always tells me to tone it down. I went to get my hearing checked and apparently my hearing is fine so I don’t know why I belt it out when I talk 😅 my apologies!

@Sunny_Ezri high fashion is just so weird. I don’t understand how some people can like some of the set ups for clothing style! Plus, to pay $70 and up for a shirt just seems ridiculous to me. Seinfeld and snow, my friend, suck. A lot. Lol can’t stand the show and for snow, that’s why I have a home in Florida. To avoid that nasty stuff!! 😂

@Sheena123 ~ I should have clarified... in a club it's expected and awesome! One night at a club in SF, I found an open chair and parked myself next to a speaker. It was so loud I couldn't hear it, but because I was leaning into it like it was my pillow, the vibrations lulled me to sleep (I'd been up for over 30 hours). Dang I miss being young!!
Now that I'm old it's the kind of bass that comes from cars that shake my whole house as they go by, freaking out my pupper and mew, that makes me cranky. I also don't like when they pull up close to me at a red light and it vibrates my inner ear causing me to get instantly nauseous. 🔊🤢 Boooo!

So racists and bullies and child abusers and things like that are all things I think we can agree not too many actually like lol it’s all about saying what you don’t like that it seems EVERYONE just loves!! @Sewcuddler yea ketchup is just the worst! Lol I grew up with a brother that had it on almost everything and he ate with his mouth open, so all I saw was red. Ugh! Turned me off from it. The only time I can eat it is if I get ketchup chips (which is more a Canadian thing than anything else) or out it on my sauce for meatloaf.

By "sentience" I meant a creature's capacity for being self aware.
In humanity, this results in a multitude of characteristics, none of which are very pleasant. While some might respond that this view conveys a pessimistic bias, I think it's important to keep in mind that any positive traits proposed by persons with more cheery dispositions are just as biased—with the additional downside of said biases being unrealistic and invalidated by human history.
However, I'm not of the opinion that nescience would be preferable. There is, in my mind, no ideal state for our species to achieve, and the only alternative (non-existence) is an inevitability.

Having less sex than you want, is unpleasant ; but it's not nearly as unpleasant, as having more sex than you want. The awkwardness with sex, is that it needs two people, and appetites vary.

@geoff1000: I... may be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure the subject of the thread is "disliking things most people love." Not "balancing your desires against those of your partner." Not quite the same thing, those two topics.
@DarrenWalker The key to balancing desires in a relationship, is presumably for each to know what the other's desires are. A thread in which people say their unusual dislikes, helpfully reminds us that we are all different. We can then avoid the, "But you are a Jewish Pisces lesbian, so I was sure you'd like sky-diving" etc. So hats off to @Sheena123 for that.
My brother and his wife used to have Brussels Sprouts with Christmas dinner every year, believing that the other must like them, from visiting each other's parents at Christmas.
There was a moment of revelation when each learned that the other also didn't like them, so they never had them again.
Unusual desires in one's partner are equally important to know, as illustrated by the song "Escape" AKA "The Pina Colada song".
A fundamental part of the game of Bridge is where each player has to communicate to their partner, the suit for which they have the most strong cards. If that goes wrong, the rest of the game is lost.

Your use of the data's still not the subject of the thread (and frankly this particular use is one I'd rather not hear about). Can we maybe get back to listing things most people love which we, as individuals, don't?
Me, I think I mostly like the things humanity in general loves. Or at least I don't dislike most of the things I typically see lots of people declaring their fondness for, so....
@DarrenWalker So why do you find it interesting to know what other people's unusual likes and dislikes are, and why do you think they are interested in yours ?
What can possibly be a better use of communication, than to help people get on with each other ?

It’s just super fun to see the differences in each other! The shock effect excites me! I hear someone hating something I absolutely adore gives me that shock effect but the desire to know why. 🤯😄
