What is the meaning of life? 🌌

Is there a purpose for us all as individuals as well as a collective... is there a lesson or lessons to be learned? Did we just happen to ... well ... happen by mistake after billions of years in this galaxy 🌌 millions of years on earth, & no words in the dictionary to describe how long the visible universe has even been in existence (if that even begins to describe it)

Some of us are faith based / others are atheist and or agnostic / and others are simply spiritual... & everything outside & in between the above ...

I like to think that this journey is 1 of many that we get to experience, get to live ... and each journey makes us that much better for the next journey, & every step of the way is a stepping stone to the ultimate goal ... a goal in which I don’t know what is, or dare I say - remember

I like to imagine/ believe / & feel that everything is love ♥️ , & love is everything 🌌 .... and that is what matters... seems that in our current journey right now we all have it & feel it, both to give & receive ... but circumstances & experiences ... as well situation determine how compassionate & selfless we are with others , & how we act on this,, will determine the next journey ... or all these words were for nothing & im completely wrong lol

    Lovely.
    I think we're here to wake up to our essence and learn to love.
    Some of us are still at the reptile phase, but eternity is a nice wide long deep playground.

    I'm not sure. I think the meaning of life is to find meaning for our lives.

    From a more technical point of view, living things generally are hardwired to thrive and procreate, so I think that part of our ambitions and wants are linked to procreation and humanity thriving.

    I also think that our purpose is a way that the universe expresses itself, through us, and for the universe to be conscious of itself. We are made up of stuff in the universe, after all. We came from the stars, and our matter will perhaps return there one day, although according to modern science our body is replaced with a new set of cells every 10 years or so.

    Where is love in the picture of planets that you show? They ‘look’ lovely perhaps agreed, but where is the love?

    Where is love in dead earth that later ‘allows’ growth using dihydrogen monoxide (water) while using the same sun that helped dry all that was there before?

    Perhaps aesthetically appealing for a creature called human, but where is love in the rising and setting of a star that we named sun? There are many other ‘sunrises’ and ‘sunsets’ in the universe perhaps a multiverse ... many of mankind are oblivious by choice and most of us at a loss even with all the advances ... love is exceptionally important and may be part of many things but is only an important fraction ... not everything.

    Every time we eat food or write a response on a forum, could you calculate how many children died due to hunger during those minutes? In whose love does such a child die if everything is love?

    What's the meaning of whose life to whom?

    You all seem to be focused on human life (which makes sense on account of you're all human), but viruses are alive too, you know. And grass. And cows. Are their lives meaningless? Do they have no purpose? Pretty sure we use them for stuff, anyway....

    If you're gonna ask what the meaning of life is, seems to me you oughtn't to leave so much life out of the question. We're all living things, yeah? Dogs and trees and germs included.

    This topic could take a massive amount of time to really digest, but to @HUGGGGGG question of where is love in the picture of the planets, consider this wonderful thought. The sun is 400 times the diameter of the moon, and also 400 times further away from the earth than the moon. This makes us as observers uniquely positioned to observe a total solar eclipse, something that can't be done anywhere else in our solar system. And to me, that is just one act of love for us by the one who created both us and the universe. This is similar to the idea that, even though water is abundant on earth, it is rare in the universe, and we both need it and have it to sustain us. Both are not accidents; both are acts of love. You're right, it is an act of love to feed a child; but the scope of the expression of love isn't limited to that. I hope these thoughts are wonderful bits to digest in your minds.

    Interesting thoughts! I hope your take is true! Otherwise, it would really be sad that we all just pass on to a state of non existence. Maybe us humans have to resort to happy thinking to feel we all have some kind of purpose. I don’t know. Nobody knows for sure. When we pass on, we may or may not find out. If this life is it, everything will still be ok. Just think of the millions or billions of years before we where born. Everything was ok and we didn’t really care. Happy Holidays everybody!! Enjoy this and every moment of your life!

    I'm not sure if it really makes much sense to focus too much on trying to find a meaning of life. I'm not sure I'd call it an 'accident' though - Life may just be a natural consequence of a combination of factors that led to the development of living cells, which further developed into more complex life. I generally think it's good to try to make the best of things, do good things for other people, find good experiences to live life well and be happy, and be positive.

    Also, what I think is related to this question is whether we're alone in the universe or if there's life on other planets. The universe is so huge, and there are so many planets in the universe (it really is difficult to grasp how big the universe really is), that I think it's fairly likely that life does exist elsewhere, even if the chances of development are slim. I think it would be really interesting to know for sure if there's life on other planets somewhere, especially intelligent life.

    There are conspiracy theories about whether we've been visited by extraterrestrial life and what the government may already know, but I don't want to go into those with the lack of evidence. However, I there are some stories about possible extraterrestrial life encounters I've heard of that I think are interesting, as I don't think they have been debunked:

    • The Betty and Barney Hill story: In the early 1960s, they supposedly encountered a UFO and were taken aboard. They lost some memories of the event, which hypnotists help them recover later. I think the interesting thing about this story was that Betty Hill was supposedly shown a map of a star system that nobody recognized at the time, and only years later, someone matched it to the Zeta Reticuli star system after Zeta Reticuli had been discovered (Zeta Reticuli was not known at the time of the Betty & Barney Hill incident).
    • The Travis Walton incident (1975). This was the (true) story that the movie Fire In The Sky was based on - though the part of the movie inside the UFO was a total embellishment, and Travis Walton describes it entirely differently. I think Travis Walton's story is interesting because he firmly believes what happened, and his story hasn't been debunked (that I know of). Also (at least according to the movie), he really did go missing for several days, and people from the town where he was from were looking for him, and some even suspected his co-workers (who he was with at the time) of murder when he was gone.
    • The Rendelsham Forest incident (1980)
    • The Belgian UFO wave in 1989
    • The Phoenix Lights incident in 1997

    There have also been numerous reports of people seeing triangle-shaped UFOs. Also, a while ago, the Pentagon in the US de-classified US Navy UFO videos, admitting they saw something and they don't know what they saw.

    @DarrenWalker OP mentioned "we", which I think means us humans.. But I suppose the question could apply more broadly to any life.

    @FlyingToaster: Well, you ask whether "we" are alone in the universe—if what you mean by "we" is "humans," we're not even alone on our own planet. Lots of nonhuman life here.

    I have definitely noted the human tendency to consider human life the only life that really counts as life, though. So it makes sense that, when a human asks what the meaning of life is, they're only interested in the meaning of human life. Heck with all other life. Who cares whether it's got meaning or not?

    I just happen to think that's, you know, a piece of self-centered arrogance that gets in the way of what could otherwise be an at least slightly clearer view of reality.

    ...And before you ask: of course I'm human! Human, human, human. Just look at my neck!

    I believe the human race was planted on Earth by an advanced alien civilization hundreds of thousands of years ago. Our only purpose is to procreate and evolve. Think of us as a petri dish in some enormous laboratory. In the enormity of the universe, we are as insignificant as an ant is to an elephant. We haven't evolved much since we are constrained by the limits of our brain's capacity. Most recent advances in science have come not from our own brains but from captured alien technology.

    @FlyingToaster: I'm pretty sure most people understand the question "Are we alone in the universe?" as asking whether there's human-grade life anywhere in the universe outside earth.

    "Are we alone in the universe, or is there life we'd consider important out there somewhere?"

    Edit: I mean, we've already discounted all nonhuman life on this planet as unimportant, so....

    Meaning in life is where you find it.
    For me it's in seeking out adventure and sharing good times with the people I'm close to, and of course in cuddles I'm determined to search every cuddle I can find for the ultimate answer to life. (May I never find it!! ;) )
