It was a total eclipse for me, Dallas was in the path of totality. It was quite an amazing experience, it hadn’t happened here since 1878.

I heard on the radio that 1.5 million came to Dallas to see the eclipse. 😳 that’s difficult to believe but who knows. I stayed off the highway so I didn’t see any of them.
I watched it in Iowa, where we got about an 80-85 percent eclipse, I would guess. It was interesting to see the moon take such a big bite out of the sun. I was surprised at how much light remained, since the sun appeared only as a sliver. The light did dim a little in an unusual kind of way. To say it looked as if some dark clouds had moved in would be only a very crude comparison. I'd never seen anything quite like it.

My first experience with the 100 % totality thing. It is so amazing to see how much light the sun provides even 95 % covered. But that 100% moment is like whoa!! and then you're staring at the totality and then a few minutes and boom! all the light comes back and you put your eclipse glasses back on and its just a sliver still! Amazing !! 😎
@OhioMike i’m glad that you got to enjoy the spectacle. It’s nice to see that sort of enthusiasm for an event like that. here in California We didn’t get to see any of it of course but it was nice to be able to see the pictures that everyone shared.
@lonelytauros yeah it was interesting to pick a site to see the totality. It was like 45 minutes north of where I live and so we took these back roads and stayed at a small exit off the interstate. The pic doesn't show it but there were probably 30 some peeps that had same idea lol. It worked perfect. There were some huge crowds mentioned on the news like Lake Erie areas and several parks etc.
@OhioMike great photos! The most interesting thing to me was how sudden the darkness was here, the birds and suddenly got really cool. The air changed.
Who else is in here was in California and only saw a partial eclipse raised hand
@carrieanne yeah the moment it hit 100 % it got dark!! It was so amazing to see how light it still was right before that. Unfortunately, We didn't get to hear or see much wildlife because we were so close to the noisy interstate. And you're right about the temp going down fast!

I was trying to find glasses as it peaked but was unsuccessful. At least I resisted the urge to burn my retinas staring directly at it.
@OhioMike omg I want steak n shake now (in the background of your photo). I used to go there all the time back when I lived in Florida. A few years back (pre-covid) I saw there was a location in Burbank, CA and I ate there once, but it wasn't the same and they have since closed 😭
@OhioMike Thanks for the hospitality that your state showed yesterday, to so many of us from Michigan/Indiana/Wisconsin/Minnesota. It was a gorgeous day and worth the drive to be in totality! First and probably last time in my life I will experience that. My kids enjoyed the park we went to on the west side of Ohio.
