And then, like many others here, The Goonies was an important movie in my childhood. I loved Chunk’s friendship with Sloth and Mama Fratelli was terrifying.
And the first live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. I got to see that in the theater (didn’t go to the movies much as a kid so it was very exciting).

Yes, it’s a classic Mel Brooks film, but from my childhood??!?!?
Well, my best friend in the world, who I still know today, I met in first grade. He is Jewish and his mom and dad were both artists and had fantastic senses of humor and were of course big Mel Brooks fans and had all his movies. We used to watch his movies over and over again, but History of the World was our favorite. We both could literally recite the entire script word for word at one point. Popeye (Robin Williams) was a close second.
Honestly, he played a large role in shaping the person I have become over my life. I wish he and his family lived closer. To this day, we still quote this movie all the time when we text.

@Charlie_Bear I have not watched the movie in probably over 30 years (I’m long overdue) but I could still probably recite a good 75% of the script from memory right now. “Now HE is a eunich !” “He’s dead!!”
On a funny note I did just so happen to watch blazing saddles last week. My god is Madeleine Kahn pure comedy gold. Mel is hilarious too. So glad he’s still on this earth. I have to see the history of the World : part 2 series that is streaming on some subscription site I don’t pay for…lol
My parents took me to the movies they liked. I now know my mom had a secret crush on Robert Redford and was very counterculture in many respects and my dad loved action and comedies. As a result it rubbed off on me as to what I loved from my childhood
