Interestingly, a few years ago a friend who grew up in South & Central America expanded my view on this, because I stuck my tongue out at her in that "playful/childish/teasing" fashion (marked by both eyes being tightly closed ๐๏ธ) when she poked fun at me. She was very confused by it and asked me to explain, because apparently in the culture she grew up with, sticking your tongue out at someone was seen as very rude/insulting, whereas in my upbringing it was always used to express light-hearted teasing, defiance and silliness, with perhaps a slight sexual element to it when adults did it sidelong towards another with a wink. ๐๏ธ
That seems to resemble a famous cultural faux-pas of giving the diver's OK ๐๏ธ to anyone older in south/south-eastern Europe, being received at least as the equivalent of a one-finger salute ๐๏ธ in North America and much worse than the back of two fingers to a Briton (emoji not available). Both of those more local expressions have faded into obscurity with younger cosmopolitan generations (after all, we're all living in Amerika now).
However, I will agree with Ms Carissa here, it is quite suspicious and perhaps even unbecoming when one comes across a professional user's profile on this site featuring photos nearly all with either their tongue stuck out ๐๏ธ, blowing a kiss with a wink ๐๏ธ, showing off the top of their chest โค๏ธ, showing their clearly-defined other side ๐๏ธ, wearing skin-tight clothing โณ, sucking on a lollipop ๐ญ๏ธ... all from the same user, while having many glowing 5-star reviews. ๐๏ธ Not naming any names. Perhaps they are just good at advertising and know the (not always true) adage that "sex sells!" to get an advantage above their competition? ๐๏ธ Each to their own. Thankfully I've yet to see anyone here showing off the even less ambiguous lip-biting ๐ซฆ or... that other thing people mentioned earlier in the thread. ๐คช๏ธ
Most men tend to have little idea of how to appear "sexy" to women though, so I wonder how many of the rarer male pros on this site have tried to put on the Blue Steel smoulder in a tight-fitting suit... ๐ค๏ธ๐คฃ๏ธ It's just good marketing practice, right?
Here I thought I was special because I can wiggle my ears & my nose.
This is a 54 second video of one of my favorite comedians offering advice to guys wanting to take and send seductive photos to women, start by putting all of your clothes onโฆ
Can I start a post asking, "why the fish"? That's one I can't understand. Why so many people have fish in their profile pics...
Cus I do what I want and I wanted to
@stormydaycuddle - LOL, I have not noticed that in profiles but I am guessing it is probably men who do that more than women. Maybe they are trying to imply they are a โgood catchโ (which is not really appropriate for this site).
@JohnR1972 lol. Also, interesting. I always thought it was something about being a provider... like...cave personish. I'm not implying that is what it means. I've seen it elsewhere and that was legit the impression I had.
@stormydaycuddle Depends on the species of fish. If itโs a catfishโฆrun.
@stormydaycuddle - the concept of being a provider also crossed my mind but without actually seeing the photos in question I thought that might have been a stretch.
On a related note, years ago my brother sent me a screenshot from a dating website. It MAY have been a joke but based on some people I knew growing up in rural Indiana, I am not assuming it was a joke.
A 50 year old guy described himself in detail then said he was looking for a woman 35-55 years old who was a good cook, was good with children, and who owned a tractor. He then said โif interested, please send a photo of the tractor.โ
@JohnR1972 That tractor thing makes me feel like that person couldn't afford their own and was really just looking for a tractor.
@pmvines Lol! Oh will you hold your tongue already...๐๐๐
I agree its not a good look just like duck faces in profile pictures
Why the tongue??
I had a friend in Arkansas that said he had to ask his relatives that constantly before they stopped having family reunions every year.
@JohnR1972 I love that comedian, too! ๐

@BoomerSpooner if I read that rightโฆ hahaha.
@stormydaycuddle ๐yes you did.
@Rachel_P thanks for the great explanation!!!
You're pretty pure aren't you? XD
It's either 3 things: An anime reference, a mating call, or they're modeling to show that they are down to party (similar to duck face and the famed look developed by Derrick Zoolander for high fashion: Blue Steel)
9 months now since I posted on this and I STILL see so many of these pix - argh. Such an unattractive look! I was really hoping this trend would fade like Tom Hardy shirts but Iโm afraid it might be hear to stay.
Is was only one time ! Last summer ! I wonโt ever do that one more time ๐
I, too, was hoping this fad would pass quickly.
To me it looks like a short circuit of the Hypoglossal nerve, and I've often wondered if having the person stick a bobby pin into an electrical outlet would "reset" it, just like when you toggle breaker switches.
This thread is hilarious
@OhioMike I just wanna know what @SuperManCuddles whispered into your ear! ๐
@Nature_Lover_ Hope it's okay to say, but my God, you are so photogenic! ๐ญ Pass some of that pixie dust my way?

Sometimes tongues are just cute, like this. ๐ฅฐ๐๐คช๐
My tongue is forever coffee stained so don't show it off very often lol
Tongue sticking out pictures also can confuse facial recognition apps. According to a developer I know, it changes too much of the face/focal points to hit on.
Iโve always thought these pics with girls sticking their tongues out were either overtly sexual or they just look like dogs.
@Morpheus - that post might not sound like you meant it to.
that post might not sound like you meant it to.
I was thinking the same thing considering what female dogs are called. Unintentional I am sure, but unfortunate word choice for certain.
