Let us work together and make CC forums once again an inviting place for all!

I recently received a message from a very intelligent, and articulate female acquaintance who implied I was “very brave” for posting on CC forums. I thought the comment was a little odd given that I reserve the term “brave” for combat soldiers, fire fighters, people that climb cliffs, etc.) But given the negative comments, memes, I’ve seen on display more frequently than when I joined (only a few months ago) I thought I would at least make some recommendation. Who am I to comment –nobody important – just an old beast with compassion for others!

Individuals are bombarded by negativity, bitterness, and other unpleasant experiences everyday—in my case that was why I was so excited when I joined–maybe I am naive–but my understanding is that CC was formed for both the physical and mental health of members–it certainly has helped me! I especially like the ability of posting on CC forums–especially helpful after a stressful day –and always nice when you can make at least one other person smile. I have thick skin–maybe that's why it's easy for me to post. But I sadly learned that only a fraction of members post–many avoid the forums all together. I would like to offer a few recommendations to make CC forums more friendly for all to participate!

Avoid the Urge to Immediately Attack: I’ve noted on more than one occasion if someone posts what seems to be a “stupid”--that person immediately starts receiving fairly negative responses. The person posting may be struggling with a personal issue, may be shy, may have other internal struggles and even though the topic may not be “cool” give the poster the benefit of doubt before attacking (funny- non-mean hearted responses can still be in-bounds depending on the topic).
Flag button: The CC flag button is a wonderful protection tool and is a fantastic resource for those addressing derogatory attacks, stalking, inappropriate language, etc. But pushing the flag button because you don’t like their posting or you don’t like the poster seems juvenile –especially on an adult site. If you don’t like someone–one always has the option to avoid reading their postings. Flagging individuals for childish reasons seems to create a lot more work for the over tasked moderators.
Going off posting topic to attack another member: I’ve seen postings where it starts on a topic–then two members who know each other will start an off-topic discussion that sometimes disintegrates into personal attacks—or so it seems.
Negative derogatory memes: Please correct me if I am wrong–but I have seen, on more than one occasion, memes posted that simply are meant to be derogatory or hurtful! These postings go against the CC spirit of community and stop!

CC is a very unique and special community, especially from my perspective! Normally I am not concerned about who responds to me–but in this case especially–it would be nice to hear from others how we can make posting in CC formulas more appealing to all!

Respectfully submitted by Steve (Dennis is my middle name—I would like to change my member name to three toed sloth–so people can get a better visual picture of me–if anyone can share the instructions!).

  • I agree with you.

I like to remind people who post here that everything they write is like they were writing their own karma.

My suggestion to people is to read before hitting "Post," while asking themselves whether their words will increase or decrease their chance of finding a cuddle.

  • Sometimes I think some people post simply to get things off their chest--not necessarily to find a cuddle partner--but thank you for you reply. I post simply because I am nuts!

It can def get crazy here. I know I have been accused of playing favorites and whatnot which is just ridiculous to me. I was a normal forum user long before becoming a mod, so I had made plenty of friends here, but when anyone I am friends with is flagged, I just don’t handle those flags and let another mod take it ( unless it’s something urgent). Me being active in a thread seems to give the impression I am protecting people since no action has been taken by me, but that is never the case. I’m just not going to take on flags that will give me stress because I’m such an anxious person and that’s my choice for my own mental heath. I also make no claim to be right all the time and am offered feedback by my fellow forum members which is always welcome. Heh sorry I guess I had some things to vent but I hope you all can understand the pressure, at least for someone like me. Also, I really couldn’t care less if someone had different views than me. I have friends across all spectrums and don’t let a difference of opinion get in the way of a friendship.

I haven't been here as long as some people. Were the forums ever inviting?

  • I am told they were not--but isn't that a little sad---I think the forums offer an unadvertised CC gem that could really help people grow there community stronger---one would hope there is at least one sanctuary that is better then real society--may I am a dreamer!

    @WriterGF
Not that I can remember 😅

  • It's great that there are so many willing souls willing to cuddle with complete strangers--its speaks volumes about their character---it would be nice if forums were a place one could go just to express ones self without the fear of humiliation--attack---(both I do quite well on my own!)

  • I've allways tried to lead by example. Nice, peaceful, respectful, understanding, not trolling. How difficult i is that ?

I haven't been here as long as some people. Were the forums ever inviting?

I’ve been here for 9 years and the forums are more inviting than they’ve ever been thanks to the hard work of people like @CharlieBear the bear 🐻 king 🤴 of Los Angeles and the other mods. This place was a war zone before them.

  • Honestly, I think the world has a lot of bitter, unsympathetic people, and thus, any public place with social connection will also have its share of bitter, unsympathetic people.

Those who are kind will continue to be so; those who lack compassion will continue to do so. The latter will likely never click on a thread with this title, lest it be to mock it.

That said, I agree 100% with @JoyfulHeart's comment:

"everything they write is like they were writing their own karma."

The way people treat others here on the board speaks volumes about their character. The ones who don't like that concept are likely the ones who have good reason to regret the way they present themselves, and their lack of common decency.

Even if as a whole the forums are not very inviting, at least a decent chunk of individual threads are very inviting. I'm glad to know it's on an uphill swing.

  • @dennis22554
I think you are 💯 on why people might post in the forum.
Sometimes it’s in search of information, sometimes it’s to defend a point of view & then to add one, sometimes to find clarity about this whole concept of cuddling. Many individual and unique reasons just like people.

When I have mentioned the forum to my real life cuddlers, they mostly have had zero interest and didn’t even know there was a forum here.

Yeah these forums have way too much bickering. A lot of people here should take some hemp oil or CBD oil or something before posting to take the edge off.

"When I have mentioned the forum to my real life cuddlers, they mostly have had zero interest and didn't even know there was a forum here." 100% agree with this !

We have had a few threads about forum use and the results shared were those that show a very very small number of CC members post here. . I do personally feel that sometimes, we frequent older CC posters get maybe , idk , a feeling like we have a small feeling of responsibility, especially to newer members to steer the conversation to a productive state. I may be wrong about that and need to think about that some more.

The forums are positive and negative, up and down, good and bad, etc etc and have been this way since I joined years ago. The longer I am here the more repetitious I personally feel they become. But that's a me problem. I loved the decision to make the mega price thread and sometimes think we could probably have like 10 or so mega threads to cover everything here lol.

You can almost make it a game now (see bingo thread lol) on whether this is a good thread or not, how long its gonna last, whos gonna derail it and whos gonna get banned or timed out, who is gonna make an ill attempt joke, and whos gonna inject the perfect humor at the perfect time to lighten things up.

This is my opinion only, but I feel the forums are sometimes entertaining, often repetitious, great for meet & greets and
other events like that. I know during the pandemic , when we were all locked down together the forums were a nice way to keep a community spirit going.

So anyways, I enjoy reading the forums but really I'm here to meet you folks ! 🤗

  • @OhioMike
My favorite post. What an outlook on things.

  • I am am very precipitate of the civil nature this discussion and truly believe good people...... like everyone everyone here...can help change the culture!

  • @OhioMike
I like your very fair and and reasonable take on the forum. And yes, the older we get, the more we learn, the more we experience and sometimes if something is said by someone who may have not gotten there yet - well it can be tempting to post an FYI.
We really do all have a lot to learn as we move ahead through life. We all might be amazed at what is coming (even tomorrow) for us. .

  • @g_w_t_w I really enjoy your forum posts. You are one of those CC members, that when I see your username on a thread, I know its worth reading. Thank you.

@billiam thanks you for the kind response and Happy 10th Anniversary on CC. Congratulations to you!! 🏆

  • @dennis22554 you have made some very good observations in your time here. You've also been a welcome addition to the discourse from why I've observed. I am willing to work at this like a few others i see trying to stay somewhat level in their comments. I hope I've been the same.

I do believe the forums were more welcoming when i joined. I did get in some silly arguments in the day, I've also been attacked and accused of things that i didn't feel was fair. But there were always people willing to discuss in a fashion i could relate and grow from. I've grown a lot and learned a lot about how to deal with these things over my time.

But now, i look at the things that go on and to be honest id run away quickly. I don't really try to personalize comments and don't always try and attribute certain names with what i feel is negative or useless. But i can help it sometimes, and there are a few in these comments i would never engage with.

Hopefully we will get to a happy place and i hope those willing to share and help remain. But I've found it less appealing to me the way things are, not that it would matter if i contribute.

  • This is the last place one would expect to see bullying, but I've experienced it in the forums and I had to learn the lesson of who to steer clear of.

  • @OhioMike you make the world a better place and especially the CC community 🫂🤗😇

  • Thank you @Auroradream , you know I feel the same way about you. Even though its only been a couple weeks, I miss seeing you! 🤗 sending hugs your way!

I enjoy diagnosing things. And besides it just being the fact that we all suffer from the human condition, there are strategies that would make the forums run smoother.

I don't know how we'd get people to agree to them.

This isn't a comprehensive list, but for real, ongoing, open and honest communication, each person needs first to seek to understand, then to be understood. I guess in a forum, that wouldn't apply to the first post in a thread, but would apply to any subsequent posts.

Another thing is there really should be different kinds of threads. I learned in my marriage, business, and writing, there are two distinct phases. And they shouldn't mix. There is the validation/understanding - brainstorming - 1st draft phase.

In a relationship, your partner just needs to be heard and validated and accepted. Loved even. Maybe they are causing all of their own problems, but now isn't the time for that discussion. In business and writing, it's the brainstorming phase. You want to get all the ideas out without judgement.

When that is done, if problem solving need to happen, it can happen now with both parties now open to the process. Often, the person just needed to be listened to, and will be able to fix their own problem, or just let it be. In creative pursuits, after brainstorming you can troubleshoot and edit.

Both parts are important, but they don't mix well. Phase 2 tends to shut down phase 1, and you miss out on some really beautiful places you could have gone. 5 crazy ideas can lead to a brilliant one. 5 painful memories shared and held by another can lead to a breakthrough. But if you say that's a stupid idea, or stop wallowing in your feelings, the whole process stops. And then that's when wallowing actually starts. Or fighting.

Just a couple of observations I've had. I've seen people hurting deeply here, wanting someone to just say they understand, and then someone instead tells them how to fix the problem (in ways they've almost always already tried), or that they are somehow bad. And kaboom! When don't we all just want hugs? Hug it out, then fix the problem, if there is one.

  • @OhioMike
Thanks! I hadn't realized I signed up 10 years ago. I've only been active for 3 or so of those years but it did start a decade ago. Wow.

  • @bashfulloner no issue

Working together the culture can change... really tremendous posts

Despite the sometimes contentious discussions, I still love the forums. It’s been such a great way to meet fellow cuddlers. I feel like I now have friends all over the country and between the friendships I have made and attending the meet & greet’s, I have been able to do a lot more traveling and cuddling 🥰

  • As a former student of Latin, I still want to refer to them as the fora. 😂

  • It's been a little while, but my early experiences with the forum were some people being misogynistic. The responses of the people saying misogynistic stuff were, of course, that they weren't misogynists, they couldn't possibly be misogynists, and anyone saying so was imagining things and being offended at nothing. No attempts at understanding. Quite the opposite, in fact.

That shaped my expectations for the forums, and for certain people on the forums. My expectations in that regard remain consistently met. We've recently directly seen someone driven away from the forums specifically because of that.
