Preparing for first enthusiast cuddle

Hi all:

So after 3+ years on CC, and a couple dozen sessions with pros, I've connected with an enthusiast for the first time. She and I met in public and seem to get along well, and we're planning our first cuddle session soon.

I really had put the enthusiast portion of CC out of mind -- I tried reaching out to local enthusiasts in my first couple of months on the site, didn't have any success, and then just sort of assumed "well, if I want cuddles, I'll have to pay for them." So I'm super grateful that she reached out and I'm looking forward to the experience, and seeing if we can make this a regular arrangement.

My question for the forum -- as an experienced pro cuddler client, what differences should I be aware of as I have my first enthusiast session? She and I talked about this a little -- the timing of the session being one. In a pro session, you pay for a set period of time, the pro typically sets an alarm on her phone, and when it beeps the session is over.

An enthusiast session obviously has no requirement for a set time. But is it a good idea to define the end time when starting a session? To say, "hey, let's cuddle for an hour and then see how we both feel," etc.?

Any other red or yellow flags that I should be looking for, as someone with no experience in this aspect of cuddling? Happy to learn from other people's experiences, good or bad.

Appreciated.

  • I wish I could chime in on this for you but I'm legit commenting just to say congrats.
This post has the power to restore some long lost hope to some folks. And I love that 💜

  • I’ve done about 7 or 8 enthusiast cuddles with 4 different cuddle buddies, and yes it is helpful to still discuss an end time and probably still set a timer. A couple times, we got wrapped up in chatting and I was late getting home.
At the very least, it’s helpful if someone mentions if they have plans at a certain time so both can be aware and not feel an abrupt unexpected ending.
I think 2-2.5 hours has been about the perfect length of time for a little chatting and catch up and then snuggling up. That would allow you to complete a movie too, if that was on the agenda :)

Best of luck! Enthusiasts are out there!

  • I think the answer to basically every uncertainty is going to be "talk about it". So much stuff gets so much easier when you stop (over-)thinking it and just ask! :)

You've already talked about timing, which is useful. Have you talked about - or considered - location? I tend to move quite slowly there, coffee shop on the first meetup, maybe a pub/cinema/gallery with comfier seating on the second, then definitely at least once on somebody's lounge-room couch before we talk about whether lying on or in the bed is something we're comfortable with. Cuddling is vulnerability (that's the magic!) - other people might be faster but I'm not gonna lead day-one with an invitation to the tiny cuddle house in the woods at the bottom of the garden :).

  • As an enthusiast, the only answer I can give is that we are all different.

Talk about it with the other person. Talk about everything. Timing, location, boundaries. How slow or quickly they want to move into actual cuddling and what kinds of cuddling they prefer.

You are going to find very different responses from folks about how they move forward each time.

  • As an enthusiast, the only answer I can give is that we are all different.

^^^^THIS!!! It applies to pros as well. None of this is rocket science, and if you remove the labels the site assigns, you will be amazed to find these are people just like you. Talk to them and get to know them like you would anyone!!

  • Great responses, all. The overwhelming answer -- "talk about it" -- is definitely the right one. I'm just more looking for suggestions on what to talk about, what questions to ask, etc.

Thanks, @ArdeaCinerea. We have talked about location for our next meetup, and also couch versus bed for first cuddles. Because I'm a man and she's a woman (and also because she's done this before), I told her that I'm going to take my cues from her, and move at her pace. But we also talked about that I need to communicate and it's okay for me to suggest things -- I don't want to put the burden of making all the decisions solely on her.

We definitely seem to be on the same page with things, just wanted to brainstorm with the community and see if there's anything obvious that I'm missing.

    Congrats,

Yes an enthusiast cuddle can differ from a pro for sure, here are a few suggestions.

Go out and pick up a tiny little gift for her like
a fancy shmancy exotic little scented soap bar or a scented candle or a tiny little knick knack.

If parking is tough in your neighborhood go out and put your car on the street and let her park in your garage / spot, if applicable.

Make sure your house is super clean and you have your freshest, softest sheets on! TV off.

Set the stage, maybe some scented candles, mood appropriate music on low level, make sure your bathroom and especially your toilet are super clean! Everywhere! I know they sound like obvious things, but some people don’t do them. And put away the disco ball.

To lessen the chance of arousal, take care of that situation before hand -and for God sake, not on the sidewalk!

Make sure not to eat any garlic or onions that day, obviously be showered, brushed teeth, floss, floss, floss, mouthwash, no cologne.

I know this may sound like a “line” but somewhere towards the beginning thank her for driving over to see you, and thank her for placing her trust in you. Remember this is a woman coming over to a near-strangers house to be physically intimate - she’ll be nervous to some extent. And understandably so..

Ask her if you can pick up anything for her to eat or drink whether that be some comfort food or a dessert or a little snack, and if so, ask her if she has any allergies if she says something like just pick up whatever you want.

***** Also, and this one is a biggie, ask her in advance if there’s anything that you can do to make her feel more comfortable? I know it’s a very open-ended question but that’s the point. Give her an opportunity to express any nervousness or concerns or requests, and then HONOR THEM! *****

Now, when it comes to starting the cuddle, unlike a professional appointment where it’s expected to commence within a short period of time, an enthusiast situation differs and needs to be more slower paced, more ORGANIC in it’s timing!! You’ll have to figure that one out on your own. Don’t be rushed to immediately start it, but also don’t chitchat about world events for an hour and waste the night. Strike the balance.

Check in with her at some point early in. Ask her “how are you doing over there”? For me personally I don’t like too much taking during a cuddle, silence is golden and allow yourselves to sink into the experience without a lot of distracting jabber. I’m not saying this is a one size fits all, everyone has a different cadence on that kind of thing - but that’s just me.

When the cuddle is over, walk her out to her car, thank her for coming over and then say whatever else is applicable.

Hope this helps. And hope you have an amazing organic experience, and maybe even a long term cuddle companion. And wouldn’t THAT be nice……

  • @WestsideMarc these are great tips, thanks!! Some of them I've done in the past for professional cuddlers and I consider "no brainers" -- clean my place, make sure I'm freshly showered and teeth brushed, etc.

But some of these are new suggestions, like having a small gift for her, walking her to her car, checking in frequently, etc. I appreciate this detailed response!!

  • Congratulations on the find

  • Other things that often get forgotten:

    • before using/giving scents, ask if she's allergic or sensitive to them
    • asking about allergies and sensitivities in general. For instance, I have super sensitive skin, so some fabrics and laundry detergents can be irritating. Even just being asked ahead of time is a huge green flag for me
    • after she's arrived, before commencing cuddling, taking s moment to verbally check in with each other. Reiterating any boundaries, bringing up any concerns that may have been forgotten or glossed over in text, seeing how each other feels now that potential cuddling is actually occuring.
    • this is for both people: remembering that cuddling is never required and either person can revoke consent any time. A lot of women can feel internally pressured to follow through when they don't actually feel ready to, just because of all the anticipation and fear of letting the other person down. Just stating that at any time of she's uncomfortable she can put on the breaks can be a huge relief. And same goes for you - there's no obligation to cuddle no matter how much preparation happened. If the time arrives and you're just not feeling it, or sense something is off, it's always acceptable to pause and talk about it.

@HoosCuddling You’re very welcome, my friend. Normally I wouldn’t take that much time to write something as long as that but I know you’ve waited three years for an enthusiast so I figured I would invest a few in trying to make it the best experience possible for you two.

If you have any other questions, you’re welcome to PM me. Let us know how it goes!!!!

@WestsideMarc I like your response! It's too bad we aren't anywhere near each other. Otherwise, I would fancy a cuddle with you. 😁

@HoosCuddling As a female enthusiast I take my time in getting to know a potential cuddle partner. I do prefer having repeat partners so I see it as an investment. We discuss everything about the first cuddle ahead of time. This can be anything from duration, time, place, boundaries, environment, sensitivities, positions, expectations, music, conversation, silence, or a mix.

I also ask if they tend to fall asleep because if they do I feel like it's a waste of my time . It's different when they're paying a pro for their time. But when I'm taking time out of my busy schedule to cuddle and my partner is asleep I don't get any benefit from that . And it can be frustrating and I really don't appreciate it. (sorry for the rant 😖) Now, of course, it would be different on an overnight because sleeping is expected.

I hope you have a wonderful cuddle and that you're able to have repeat cuddles with this new partner. I know I have repeat partners & enjoy connecting with other enthusiasts as well. 🤗

Edit: I also tend to do marathon cuddles so we have discussed food ahead of time since we are usually together for an extended period of time.

Absolutely, @MTex . It's funny you mention sleeping because we talked about that in person, I mentioned I've had pro cuddlers fall asleep on me a couple of times. And it's always a little awkward because it's like -- "Do I wake them up? Am I getting my money's worth from this session if they're asleep? If we go over time because they're asleep, do I have to pay more?" (Note: that last part has never happened.)

I won't let myself fall asleep with a cuddler -- pro or enthusiast -- because without my CPAP, I snore like an MF-ing bear. I won't inflict that on anyone. :)

@cuddlefaery , thanks to you too. These are all good questions to ask.

@WestsideMarc you said: "a fancy shmancy exotic little scented soap bar or a scented candle ... Set the stage, maybe some scented candles... "

I appreciate the positive thought behind this but a lot of people are allergic to scents whether it's in perfume, cologne, shampoo, soap, laundry detergent, "air fresheners" or candles. I'm one of them. If I went into a space that has a strong perfumed scent from candles or anything else, I would leave quickly.

  • It might be appreciated but I think I would feel a bit surprised or awkward if someone brought a small gift to me. My experience was cookies, drinks etc. I might question the motive if it’s something more than that because it’s not a date.
But I would feel really cared about also.

  • @g_w_t_w , good point. Maybe (if our first session is at her place), I'll ask what I can bring -- her favorite snack or something. That way it's not a surprise.

    Because you're right. It's not a date.

  • @HoosCuddling there's also a marked difference between having snacks/beverages available vs gifting them to her. The former can feel more just like being a gracious host, where as the latter may feel too intimate for a first meet unless discussed.

  • I just make sure I’m freshly showered, wearing clean clothes, mouth fresh/teeth brushed. No scents/fragrances, and nothing romantic. If you have snacks/drinks, don’t force it. Don’t be offended if someone doesn’t want to accept food/drink from a stranger. Also clean bedding if cuddling on a bed, or clean blankets if on a couch. Also if cuddling out of your home, make it clean/tidy and as safe as possible. Escort them to/from their car if they are comfortable with that. Also don’t make any sexual jokes.

  • the enthusiast I ended up developing an attachment to. earlier on, I had asked if he'd ever want to put Legos together. 9ne time he brought sunflower lego set. we didn't put them together same day he brought them. it was tremendously positive. they're in my bookcase.
it's in the back of my mind that I'd like to fo more things like that. very cooperative.

  • I agree with the others; no gifts.

I would say the main pitfall for experienced cuddle clients is having gotten used to being catered to, and acting like the experience is about them. Since you're posting this thread, that doesn't seem like an issue you are likely to have. But even the nicest of guys can get so used to being catered to by a paid Pro, they forget that an enthusiast cuddle is about both peoples' enjoyment, needs, and wishes.

Just make sure that you're exchanging...cuddles, back rubs, conversation, questions...it should be a give and take. 😊

Hope you guys have a great time!

  • I agree--no gifts. Definitely ask if there's anything you can bring--that shows caring. If it's my first time with a new cuddler, I like to take it slow and feel the vibe out. Start just by sitting next to each other on a couch or bed, then slowly introduce touching. But of course, every one is different, so just ask.

Have a conversation about things you both want in the cuddle (I love having my hair played with. 🥰), any boundaries, what you want your time together to consist of (watching a movie? music? talking? silence? etc). Ask consent or check in often the first few times (can I touch you here? Is this ok?). I've been lucky to find someone in my town who has become a good friend, and we've been cuddling for about 3 years now. He's my safe place, and we just know what each other like and don't like at this point, so it's just natural. He's the best! ❤️🫂 I love cuddling with him because we're both people who are givers, so we both come away feeling refreshed and recharged. So many cuddlers forget that it should be reciprocal with an enthusiast. He calls it "giving spoons". We both come away feeling like spoons have been added to our total instead of being taken away from our own inventory. I've definitely come away from other cuddles feeling like I gave more than I received, and it's exhausting. 😫

As a woman who is an enthusiast cuddler, but currently on hiatus, I disagree with some of the above suggestions. Buy me nothing. This is not a date. Do not light candles or setup anything like you would a date like background music. I will not stay. Those steps portray a desire to make the cuddle a date, which this is not. This is more like two casual friends agreeing to snuggle and chit chat.
For me I hate the concept of over-planning a cuddle. I don’t want a schedule once the cuddling starts. A cuddle is organic and alive. Let it live like a fire does, growing or shrinking naturally. However, a time I have to leave by is usually stated, as I have a life and can’t stay forever at my cuddle buddie’s house.

What I do plan is this. We have a start time and we adjust as needed. I don’t cuddle anyone I am uncomfortable chatting with, and start the first cuddle session with a 15-30 minute outdoor walk and talk. I say beforehand that after the walk if I am comfortable I will ask if we can cuddle, if not I’ll say it was nice to meet them and I enjoyed our walk. If we cuddle we go straight to the bed and I snuggle up under their arm and we chat.

Beforehand we both agree to be freshly showered that day and I usually ask about scent sensitivities.

The one time someone seemed to do a lot of weird preparatory behaviour for our cuddle (changing clothes between our walk and cuddle, setting up music to play in the background, changing the lighting, etc) was the one cuddle in which I felt unsafe. I should have left right then.

As an enthusiast, I don't have time limits on it, but my work schedule's crazy and can change on a dime. I'm good with music, I'm also good with no music. My nose is SUPER sensitive so I don't use room sprays. My house just smells "clean". I don't have dimmer switches, but I have lamps so I can somewhat adjust lighting if need be. I think it boils down to communication. Tell the person what you need and be realistic about it. I've never hired a pro and I've never accepted money (or anything else) for cuddling. Just as an enthusiast, I've been propositioned too many times to not think if I'm asking for payment, the cuddler's gonna want "more". Put yourself in their shoes and just "be you". If it clicks, go with it. If it doesn't, no harm, no foul and just walk away..

And don't buy me anything. Just make me feel safe so I can shut my head off and ACTUALLY rest. THAT is the only "gift" I NEED!!

  • I would say the main pitfall for experienced cuddle clients is having gotten used to being catered to, and acting like the experience is about them. Thanks, @SunsetSnuggles. This is actually my biggest concern. I've been the paying client in every cuddle session I've had to this point. I was never super demanding (I like to think I'm a nice guy) but I didn't hesitate to ask for a new position, or even to say "hey can we move to the bed now" after 10-15 minutes on the couch.

I will have to work to remind myself that this cuddle is a two-way street, and it isn't all just about me.

This has been a very enlightening thread, and I'm so glad I posted this question. This forum is pretty awesome.

  • Gifts are fine depending on the rapport you have with your cuddler, and as long as it doesn't change the dynamic of the relationship.

  • @TxTom
Many women above are saying that gifts are not fine. It feels weird to me and awkward. Maybe if you primarily pay for cuddles it’s a different mindset?
To me it feels like dating behavior and I might wonder what the intention was.
A cuddler once brought me flowers and then proceeded to act like we were on a date and tried to kiss. Just awful!!
Anyway, to each their own but after further thought, it would make me feel uncomfortable.
Men need to understand that just because they feel inspired to do something, it doesn’t mean it will be well received.

  • @HoosCuddling
A big reason I changed from Pro to Enthusiast was because sometimes I would feel so empty and uncared for after a cuddle session.
I recognized that was the correct dynamic as a paid service but I wanted to feel mutual cuddling and a focus on feeling cared for.
I still tend to be the caregiver but maybe I should just relax and let my cuddle buddy make more of an effort.
My plan now is to stick with someone who doesn’t typically hire Pros.

  • If I was an enthusiast, I would definitely want a timer set. It's a lot different when you're both enthusiast rather than a pro and client because then it seems like a transaction but when you set a timer for two friends, it could be just to respect their time and to start off slow and build momentum from there.

Since there is no restrictions on time and you probably will meet again, if it was me, I would want to go slowly and get to know the person a little bit maybe hold hands or just sit next to each other and talk and then work our way into cuddling.

I think it's nice to come up with some little gift or maybe a cup of coffee if you're meeting early. Nothing too expensive..

I had a regular unpaid cuddle buddy before I became a pro and got on the site. We did all kinds of fun things together besides cuddling.

I hope this helps. Hope you have many more cuddles with this person. God bless you.!!

  • I do agree, not to give any kind of romantic gifts like flowers or chocolates or any kind of jewelry but just normal friendship things like a cup of coffee. Or maybe a good book you're reading. One of my clients brought me a bowl of homemade Indian food and that was so thoughtful. I loved it. Sounds like you got a lot of great advice.
