I am the type of person who isn't big into sexual attractions but loves to cuddle. To me, there's this level of security that is achieved by cuddling that no amount of money or attention can provide. When it comes down to it, cuddling to me is a way to be physically close to someone without an emotional attachment.
Cuddling is comforting. It warms you inside and out, making you feel loved without feeling insecure. Yes, hugs may have a similar effect.
However In the end, cuddling accomplishes far more than a quick hug. When I picture cuddling, I picture a hug that last for a much longer duration, which to me is far better in every way.
