I am a fairly solitary person, basically a hermit. I support myself as a freelance writer, mostly fiction, though I also tutor students in German and translate. I have an MA from the University of Cincinnati in German Studies, and I spend practically all of my free time listening to music or reading. I have two dogs—Tiffany and Sully—who are the love of my life.
I have been abstinent for about eight years, and am also something of an ascetic, preferring meditation to almost any social activity. Still, I am not a total recluse, or misanthrope, and I am aware of the need for connection with other people, especially in these days of social anomie and atomization.
I spent four years in the Army, one of those years in Iraq, where I got hurt physically, mentally, and spiritually. As a result, I have PTSD, with elevated cortisol levels, and lots of pain in my body. I pride myself on being strong enough to remain alone, with no need of anyone else, but lately I have been aching for some human contact.
To the extent I have a “type” of preferred cuddle buddy, I suppose I am drawn more toward maternal women, older and stronger.
