I’m a nurturing person. It’s part of who I am and who I’ve chosen to be. In my grown up job, I’m a pre-K special education teacher who moonlights as a labor doula. Both of these jobs have taught me the importance of physical contact for humans and how it can help ease mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual distress. We need each other. We need to be held and know that we are safe with another person, even if it’s only for a little while. And I know sometimes having a person who’s separate from the storms and chaos of our daily lives to hold onto for a while can provide a safe haven where we can let ourselves just be for awhile, without judgement or expectations.
