I had a strange and rather stressful experience with Genuine Guy. I'd been corresponding with him for years on this site, and was excited that we'd finally have the chance to meet. After quite a few emails we agreed that I'd come to him in Manhattan. He was a bit difficult to pin down for a specific time but we worked it out over several more emails and a phone call that he requested. He kept emphasizing that it was "all about communication." I told him what specific train I'd be on and when it got to Penn Station. At this point he was still vague about the address -- I assumed he was smartly taking safety precautions. But AT NO TIME IN ANY OF THESE MANY COMMUNICATIONS DID HE MENTION THAT i WAS NOT MEETING HIM AT HIS HOME. Ok that could have been fine too but it didn't turn out that way. I arrived at the front desk of the apartment building he directed me to. I asked to be announced. The front desk said no one was home. But Evasen showed up shortly. We said a brisk hello, and he said to follow him. Trying to be friendly, I complimented the building. He was nervous and hurried me across the lobby, dragging a suitcase behind him. As we walked to the elevator I said, conversationally, "Do you live here? Or are you visiting?" He shushed me and said, "Wait til we get inside!" So now I'm feeling weird; I don't know this person. He's clearly not been upfront about the situation. Red flags are going up. Should I go inside a stranger's apartment, when it's not even their apartment and I don't understand the circumstances? But I decided to go with it. Then as soon as we get inside the door he starts berating me. "When you're in an apartment (he lectures me) you don't talk loudly in the hallways, or ask questions." (I wasn't talking loudly at all.) He goes on to say that in fact I was shouting, and that HE would never ask me questions outside if he came to my house. (I said, actually it would be fine if you did that. I'm not hiding anything or doing anything illegal.) Anyway, I was so shocked that I'd come all that way to have a cuddle and he was criticizing me and lecturing me about appropriate behavior in an apartment building! I tried to defend myself and make myself heard although he was talking over me; and he said I had bad energy (!!) He never took responsibility for not being upfront about the fact that it wasn't his apartment, or that there was any need for secrecy that I should have known about. Needless to say it was a terrible experience. I would never book him again.
