PSA: Catfish 101

edited April 2022 in General

Guys. I'm sure it's flattering when you get a message from a new Pro, a new untagged pro, or a new female enthusiast who has profile pictures that are glamorous. Gorgeous. They're beautiful.

And they're fake as the double D's that I don't have.

They're a Catfish.

There's no ONE thing that can prevent Catfishing or Catfish attempts, but there are ways that we can be more diligent about the people that we interact with online.

Strategies and Catfish Awareness

  • When in doubt, use Google's Reverse Image lookup on someone's profile pics. Another reverse image search engine is tinyeye
  • Catfish profiles are often new and don't have many/any friends or karma. They're banking on YOU taking their bait.
  • Catfishers will not want to call/video call. Ever.
  • Catfishers will have 1 billion reasons and excuses to ever meet up.
  • Catfishers will attempt immediate and intense emotional connections. Their goal is you on that string, speared right through the heart.
  • Catfishers' stories don't add up, for example, their profile says they live in one part of the world but then they're suddenly in your area.
  • Catfishers ask for money or gifts, depending on an emotional connection with you, who took their bait. Never ever send money to someone whose identity you cannot confirm. CuddleComfort is in no way liable or responsible if you DO send money and you DO get Catfished - hence this warning message.

I'm writing this tonight because while I banned a reported/flagged new profile with pics stolen from an adult actress, I also want to point out that us mods can/will suspend accounts on a regular basis until the user verifies their identity. When in doubt - report them. Us mods will take it from there.

My further unsolicited advice:

Practice safe internet. Use the bigger of your two brains. Don't fall for fake accounts.

  • In all seriousness though - thank you for the post. It is a very important one. Catfishing is one reason I do a Zoom prior to having any in person sessions. 😊 The memes are just for fun. πŸ«‚

  • @Green_Eyes Aww the reality is much better when there is a cat :)

  • @Sideon Good Looking Out!

You mean the sweet, precious, cuddly porn star you've arranged to meet, and have an hour of NO PRESSURE wholesome connection with, isn't even approved as as a pro is probably a (redacted) in a (redacted) who lives in (redacted) granny's basement (redacted) and is just here to get your (redacted) in his grimy (redacted)?

@biancalovecraft - Best. Comment. Ever. [-Sid]

  • @Green_Eyes there’s a huge different between putting up a stunning photo of yourself and catfishing.

Catfishing i believe is when you go find someone else's photos, make up an entirely different fantasy life for yourself and pretend to be that a fictitious person while luring in people for love, attention and god help us cuddles.

  • OK, OK, I'll come clean. Here's my profile pic

And here's what I really look like.

"Catfishers will not want to call/video call. Ever." 'Catfishers will have 1 billion reasons and excuses to ever meet up."

That's why we need to collectively dive into the ocean and provide them cameras equipped with phones. Yeah, y'all* read that perfectly. Then they'd* have one less excuse.

In all seriousness, I've been in a situation, where a guy used a photo that looked similar to him. Due to let's just say 'privacy reasons' and yet he must've felt like he had to have a photo anyway. We video called, initially I thought maybe he just put on weight since or it was a bit of an older photo. Then I picked up on something, which prompted me to look into it. I found the photo linked to a married man. So I'm here rather devastated for me, for her, heck maybe even somewhat for him.

Trying to make sense of of the nonsense I've yet to see much of, I brought up the wife and he was all like: "I swear, I'm not married." Long story short, we met somewhere populated, public, at a reasonable hour and more convenient for me. I got a good look at him and calmly more or less told him my findings. At this point, I still didn't really have the full 'picture' as to what the flying fish was going on. Though I gave him the opportunity to explain, he came clean about it, apologized, and fixed it. So that's one of* the more sneaky forms to watch out for.

@CuddleDuncan I was ten seconds away from that then I saw your confession and figured mine could wait for another day. I'm already a hologram if anyone remembers. Came clean about that one a couple weeks ago.

@Sideon ~ Not that I'd expect you to... Just a simple, "Wouldn't it be nice if...?"

I'd love if before deleting those accounts, y'all went through their mailboxes and banned all the guys who messaged them looking to explore their [redacted] offerings first.
A one stone : multiple rotten fish type of deal ~ You know?

I have, in fact, done that very thing. - Babichev

  • Do Cuddlers catfish?..

  • @Williamsvision I think Catfishers posing as cuddle enthusiasts catfish

  • @Williamsvision The often misidentified "cuttlefish"?

  • @quixotic_life - Depending on the circumstances, I have banned some of those guys if they’ve said something explicit in their messages so yes, it happens.

  • I appreciate your picture honesty @CuddleDuncan.

For what it’s worth, you still look mighty dapper in your real picture.

I think I am a catfish sometimes but people tell me otherwise so I will believe them πŸ˜‚ I will happily video call or snapchat to prove I'm real tho. I think if your client wants proof you should comply. They are paying for your time.

  • @respectful After reading the other comments, then scrolling to your picture, I'm literally in tears. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I ended up charging for video chat and or phone calls. I had too many people wanting to talk and video chat but would cancel and keep putting off getting a session then text and calls me all the time. That is as bad as catfishing to me. It's manipulating them by using catfish as an excuse to talk on false pretenses.

Here is a twist; is it considered catfishing when a man becomes a professional to try and get other professionals to give him free sessions?

  • @sunshine77 I wouldn't say that was catfishing. That's just an inept attempt at low-grade fraud.

  • [Deleted User]Moxytocin (deleted user)

@sunshine77 Or to get access to pro's discussions, and that's scary.

  • @Gallowglass so cheesy. I laughed though. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  • @respectful that was the laugh I needed!! 🀣🀣🀣 Some levity within a serious topic never hurt anyone 😊

I will say, kudos to @Sideon foe the proactive and educational post and love everyone who added helpful and useful or even entertaining comments.

Catfishing is a real concern and the internet at large can be a dangerous place. Everyone should employ abundant precaution in my opinion.

  • Any chance of this app starting up some kind of face time / video call to avoid things like this?
I like the point @sunshine77 had made about charging for videos and calls.
I am fairly new here but that would seem like a great addition to the platform especially at something of a discounted price for not being in person.
Just my thoughts, I figured I would get into a discussion considering I'm new here

@endymionoriax - Welcome to the forums! @sunshine77 is a pro. Pro cuddlers are able to charge for cuddling, calls, or video sessions. Members without professional accounts are not allowed to charge.

There are plenty of apps one can use to do video calls without using this site. I’m not familiar with them all. Catfishing has not been a problem for me so far.

  • edited April 2022

@Moxytocin on this site being "pro" only requires that you sign up for a pro account and pay (or commit to paying) the required fee. So having discussions of a sensitive nature on a "pros only" area is probably not the smartest thing. The only thing which insulates your discussion from someone upto no good is that person signing up for a pro account.

  • Catfishers will not want to call/video call. Ever.

I just prefer texting.πŸ€·πŸΏβ€β™€οΈ I do in person meets so I see no point in the back n forth prove I am real thing.

  • now that's something..

  • @sunshine77 I'm new to being a pro and I’ve already come across the men who just want to write me paragraphs but won’t do a virtual or phone call.

To me, if a person I'm chatting with gives out her phone number, I become wary of that person. It's not that I'm a catfish or anything, but I just prefer meeting up in person first before even considering texting a number I know nothing about, or calling for that matter.
